Spring 2008
Spring
appears to have finally arrived in the great Northwest. Old Man Winter did not want to let
go, and later than usual cool and downright cold weather slowed the
pace of things a bit. Planting
schedules started on schedule only to be held up from time to time by
spring snow and some very cold temperatures. See the individual reports for more
details.
This winter
and spring also saw the explosion of wheat prices and the continued
advancement of corn prices.
These led to more acres not being available for National to
plant. National has seen
decreases over last year’s acreage ranging from 10% on corn,
green beans and carrots to 35% on lima beans. More is included in the individual
reports.
Thankfully,
it appears spring has finally arrived. Despite the setbacks we are
currently only a week to ten days behind our normal schedule. This extra time should help give
National’s operations teams a little extra time to prepare for
what is expected to be another great processing year.
Please
stay tuned for more crop news as it becomes available.
